BAS-Approved

Alpaca Training

Official British Alpaca Society certification

for aspiring and new alpaca owners

Alpaca Ownership Requires Specialist Knowledge

Owning alpacas is hugely rewarding, but like any livestock they require knowledgeable care and good husbandry. For new owners especially, the range of health, handling and management responsibilities can feel overwhelming.

Our specialist training courses provide the practical skills and confidence needed to care for alpacas properly. You’ll learn about safe handling, nutrition, health checks and daily management – all essential for animal welfare, successful breeding and quality fleece. With the right knowledge, alpaca ownership becomes far more enjoyable and rewarding.

Why Proper
Training Matters

Proper training is essential for responsible alpaca ownership. While good breeders provide guidance, a short handover isn’t enough to cover handling, health and daily care. Hands-on training builds confidence, helps prevent stress or behavioural issues, and supports better welfare. It also helps owners make informed breeding decisions. BAS certification shows a commitment to responsible, knowledgeable alpaca care.

BAS-Approved One-Day
Certification Course

BAS-Approved One-Day Certification Course

An ideal way to prepare yourself for owning your own alpacas is to attend our official British Alpaca Society training. The BAS recommends that, to be done properly, the one-day course should cover Modules 1 – 3. This training can only be delivered by BAS Affiliate Trainers and is a mix of theory and hands-on practice with animals from our herd.

At Brillbury, in our comfortable, dedicated alpaca training room, you can learn from our championship breeding experience and an official Certificate of Completion is provided at the end of the course. We are always happy to answer questions from our course attendees after they return home.
